Bali has always been a reputation as a place of spirituality and lush nature. And I don’t doubt that for a bit. Nestled in the heart of Canguu, is a family owned Kitchen and Lounge called Taman Nauli. BY RACHEL MANTIRI

The restaurant is located in a rather unassuming plot of lush greenery close to the main road in Jalan Canguu Raya. Once you enter you will be greeted by stone statues of Buddha seated by the pond as you climb up a small set of stairs into the main yard. Their appearence will remind visitors of a mini village as the plot consists of several antique Joglos: one for the main eating area, a private dining area, a drink bar, yoga studio, small gazebo. Their ambience is rustic and natural, It’s common to see chickens roaming around the garden, and be accompanied by the sounds of a little stream that flows to a nearby river. The energy in Taman Nauli is quiet & calming and is comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons.

The staff gave us a warm greeting, they were friendly and assisted us tremendously. The menu is contains a variety of Indonesian, Asian and Western dishes. Its flavour has a home-cooked taste and an affordable price range. My personal favorite would be the Tuna tataki salad, the chewy ponzu-marinated tuna mixed with crunchy textures of the garden salad was an absolute delight! My main course was one of their specialties, the Pad Thai. The portion was generous with the price of only IDR 45,000. I finished it off with the ‘Green Juice’ a healthy blend of pineapple, apple & kale.

Every Sunday Taman Nauli hosts a ‘Sunday market’ from 8:00am-17:00pm. The booths sell a range of local & vegan produce, you’ll find freshly farmed fruits and vegetables, Vegan coconut green tea cookies, natural cheese, organic herbal taman oils to name a few. If you’re interested in Yoga, the lessons on Sunday are paid via donation.

Taman Nauli also offers Bed & Breakfast rooms. You’ll be welcomed through traditional antique Balinese doors, into a rustic and shabby-chic interior. The bedroom, features a queen size bed, fully air-conditioned and en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower, a washbasins and toilet and a view that overlooks into a vast pandan field.

So If you want to get away from the overcrowded hustle and bustle of Canguu, and enjoy some quiet relaxation. drop by Taman Nauli
